Best Public Golf Courses Near Augusta, Georgia

There’s nothing quite like a sunny Georgia day spent out on the golf course. As RV park owners and avid golfers ourselves, we love that Augusta, just a short drive from our park in Waynesboro, is known as Georgia’s golf capital. Of course, it’s most famous for hosting The Masters at Augusta National, one of the world’s most prestigious tournaments. However, securing a round at Augusta National is not so easy. Luckily the surrounding area is full of beautiful public courses where anyone can tee it up and enjoy the game.

In this post, we’re sharing some of our favorite public golf courses around Augusta. Each one offers something unique, from challenging layouts and scenic fairways to welcoming clubhouses and great value for a casual round. Whether you’re visiting during Masters Week or just looking to enjoy a peaceful round while staying at Dogwood RV Park, these local gems showcase why Augusta is such a special destination for golfers.

Home to the Augusta University Jaguars, Forest Hills Golf Club has been a cornerstone of Augusta’s golf scene since 1926. Located just down the road from Augusta National, Forest Hills offers a rare blend of accessibility and tranquility. Though you’re close to the heart of Augusta’s golf world, the fairways stretch through scenic landscapes that feel miles away from the bustle.

Forest Hills challenges experienced and casual golfers alike, with rolling greens, thoughtful bunkering, and creative fairways. It’s a test of strategy and shot-making.

Plus, it’s just 43 minutes from Dogwood RV Park, making it a must-play during your stay.

"The Patch"

Augusta's Municipal Golf Course

The Augusta Municipal Golf Course, affectionately known as The Patch, is undergoing a major transformation, with a full redesign led by Tom Fazio and Beau Welling, and a brand-new 9-hole par-3 short course designed by Tiger Woods’ TGR Design.

When it reopens in Spring 2026, The Patch will offer:

  • A revamped 18-hole regulation layout using parts of the original corridors
  • The Loop at The Patch: a new 9-hole short course designed to be accessible to golfers of all skill levels
  • An upgraded clubhouse and pavilion, a driving range, and expanded practice areas
  • A partnership with Augusta Technical College’s golf course management program, fostering workforce development in the golf and turf industries
  • A vision to maintain affordability and broad community access, even as the course becomes more modernized

What makes this redesign especially exciting is how it bridges tradition, community, and innovation. The new short course, The Loop, is named in homage to Augusta National caddies, “loopers” who often gathered on the property.

For golf lovers staying at Dogwood RV Park, The Patch’s revival presents a unique opportunity: public access to a historic Augusta course, steps away from one of the game’s legends, and designed to welcome both casual and serious players alike.
